Win a Friday Giveaway!

As many of you know I just moved to a new town.  Moving isn't new to me....but it still isn't easy.  Finding the best grocery store, good restaurants, concert venues and exploring generally is a blast.  But finding doctors, a dentist and a mechanic, let alone friends is a little harder...and not as much fun.

This is the first time I've moved as a potter....working from home.  Again, no human contact there....and my old friends will find it hard to believe....I am shy in the beginning!

Weekends with Greg are great, but during the week things can get pretty lonely.  My savior?  The internet.  Email, Ravelry, blogs ....  I've followed the Juniper Moon Blog for about a year.  Ironically, this farm relocated from Martha's Vineyard to my new area of Virginia shortly before we moved here.  Following Susie's blog and "meeting" The Aunties through the comments and the group on Ravelry has gotten me through quite a few blue days.  What a great place!  Who knew I would actually get to walk around The Farm, follow the sheep and goats through the pastures, love up the puppies and meet Susie in person!

So as a THANK YOU to Juniper Moon I'm offering a piece of my pottery in their Friday Giveaway!

I am a potter, but I also LOVE fiber of all kinds.  I spin, knit and weave. I dye and felt.  (I always say, whenever I try something new I am a bit relieved when I don't like it!)  This yarn bowl is a way for me to combine fiber and clay.  And I am offering it to you!

To WIN, just leave me a comment below; tell me something that you always have wanted to try....then go to Juniper Moon and leave a comment there! They will be picking the winner for me! :)

Good Luck everyone!

I would love to learn how to spin my own yarn! I think it would be the most wonderful thing to look at a knitted garment and know I made it completely.

I want to try to renovate a house. Especially if it's an old farmhouse or a barn. But first I have to buy one!

I've always wanted to try my hand at making pottery, funny enough...but I don't know if I'll ever have the time for it. Right now, between fiber farming, processing, spinning, dyeing, knittin, and weaving I'm pretty busy :)

So, I'll let you make all the wonderful pots and cheer you on from my little corner of VT :)

Hummm - so many things - Well my secret fantasy (OK now not so secret anymore!) is to be a lounge singer on a piano in a dress covered in sequins....... MUCH more realistic, would be to learn to play the piano! Second choice... re-build a vintage beetle.

I want to learn to weave - but I look the other way whenever I am in the same room as a loom - I will not add another fibery craft to my life, repeat, repeat, repeat!

I want to learn to walk on my hands. I'm terribly uncoordinated, and as a kid couldn't walk on a balance beam or do a cartwheel. In my late twenties I took up yoga, and I feel like my mind-body connection has improved significantly. But the type of coordination required to do yoga is a little different. I feel like learning to walk on my hands would help heal a piece of me that always feels like an awkward, gawky kid.

I have always wanted to learn to juggle. It sounds silly, but I'm the only person in my family who can't! I was briefly homeschooled and my dad challenged my brother and I to learn using the Klutz book and if we did we could pick out any set of juggling bean bags we wanted. That was 18 years ago and I still can't really keep a set of 3 going!

I want to learn to play the dulcimer. I even found a company that sells inexpensive cardboard frame dulcimers that sound pretty good...but it would take away from my spinning and knitting :(

Funnily enough, I've always wanted to try my hand at wheel thrown pottery. I've taken hand building clay classes before and I'm deep into every fiber craft under the sun (knitting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, sewing etc) but there's something so lovely about the smooth wheel motions that really appeals.
That's a lovely yarn bowl.

I've always wished I could learn to play the violin. I love classical music and especially find violin music uplifting, poignant or energizing, depending on the piece. I dream of picking up the instrument when I'm stressed and just playing to take myself out of whatever is driving me up the wall.

I've always wanted to try to keep bees...but they're so delicate! And important! And what if I do something wrong...they'll sting me and then they'll DIE and I'll feel very guilty.

I always wanted to be able to draw, and really thought than anything other than modifying others drawing's (for making quilt patterns and such like) was my limit....but I've recently started drawing lessons at a GOOD studio, and I am actually drawing people (pastel), that are 1) human and 2) 3-D! I'm so delighted! Now I'm trying to learn to do quick, simple sketches that look like what I'm looking at...so far, I get it 1 out of about 50 tries.....but I'm getting much better at all the various exercises we do in class, so I have nothing to complain about. I'm learning that drawing is mostly about learning to see....not unlike learning to knit and read one's knitting, just more complicated.

I've always wanted to be the person directing aircraft into and out of the gate. It always seems like such a fun way to wish a flight bon voyage on the way out, and send a warm welcome home on the way in! And I really do like the smell of jet fuel (despite the health risks).

I can very much sympathize with the isolation of working from home! One thing I have always wanted to do was learn to speak another language fluently enough to go and live in another country for an extended period of time--kind of a chance to reinvent myself a little. With four kids, a husband, and a mortgage, this isn't likely to happen any time soon, but a girl can dream.

I've always wanted to go someplace where I have no hope of understanding the language to try to understand and be understood. I've only ever been to Quebec outside of the US, and though I don't speak French, they speak English, and it's close enough to Spanish to be able to order food. I'm planning a trip to Spain, but I can speak some Spanish. I'm thinking someplace like Nepal or the Congo, someplace where I don't know word one.

I used to teach adults, and many of them were refuges, mostly from Southeast Asia though an increasing number at that time from the then USSR. The Asian students came to Syracuse after a 2 month stay in the Philippines where they "learned" English. It was really difficult for them, as one might imagine. My short week in Quebec around that time was an introduction to that... For the first two days it was just all noise, and then I could hear separate sounds, even words, and started to understand some of them. But French is like Spanish and English, sort of. Not at all like a tonal Asian language versus English.
